REEF SENSE ORP PROBE

The Red Sea ReefSense ORP Probe is a highly specialized, digital sensor designed for advanced reef keepers who want to monitor the Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), also known as the redox potential, of their aquarium water. ORP is a key indicator of water purity, the efficiency of biological filtration, and the overall oxidizing capacity of the water. Technical Features • Digital Signal Integrity: Like all ReefSense probes, the ORP probe features on-probe digital conversion, which generates a pure digital signal. This design provides complete immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) often present in sumps, ensuring the highest stability and accuracy for this sensitive reading. • Platinum Sensor: Utilizes a high-quality Platinum ORP sensor, which is considered the standard for reliable ORP measurement in aquatic environments. • High Precision: Provides accurate readings within a range of -450 mV to +1100 mV (millivolts). For reef aquariums, a healthy range is typically considered to be between +250 mV and +400 mV. • Smart Calibration Memory: Stores all calibration data directly on the probe's internal memory. This means the probe can be moved between different ports or even different Red Sea controllers without requiring a full re-calibration. • Built-in Temperature Compensation: While ORP is not as directly temperature-dependent as pH or conductivity, the digital system ensures the reading is stable and reliable across typical aquarium temperature ranges. Ecosystem Integration and Automation The ReefSense ORP Probe is fully integrated into the ReefControl system and managed through the ReefBeat mobile app, unlocking specialized automation: • 24/7 Purity Monitoring: Provides continuous, real-time data and historical logs of the water's ORP levels, allowing you to track the stability of your biological and chemical filtration. • Instant Alerts: Sends immediate notifications to your mobile device if the ORP reading deviates from your custom-defined safe range. A sudden drop in ORP is often the first sign of contamination or significant biological stress (e.g., a major die-off). • Automation Triggers: The ORP reading can be used to control essential purification devices: • Ozone Reactor Control: Automatically switch an ozone generator or reactor ON or OFF (via a ReefControl Power unit) to precisely maintain a target ORP level, preventing potentially toxic over-ozonation. • Dosing Control: Can be used in conjunction with a Red Sea ReefDose unit (or other controllers) to automate the dosing of oxidizing chemical additives. Why Monitor ORP? ORP is often referred to as the "health meter" of the aquarium. It tells you about the capacity of your water to break down organic waste. • High ORP: Indicates highly oxidizing, pure water, often achieved through excellent skimming, ozone, or chemical filtration. • Low ORP: Indicates poor water quality, high organic load, insufficient oxygenation, or inefficient biological filtration. The ReefSense ORP Probe is an essential tool for advanced reef keepers utilizing chemical purification like ozone or those who require the earliest possible warning sign of a degradation in overall water quality.
